About the Conference
Following the great attendance and interest at the January 2008 1st Annual Wetland Conference, the Wetland Professionals Association (WPA) and Wetland Delineator Certification Program (WDCP) are well on our way to organizing the 2nd Annual Minnesota Wetlands Conference, to be held on January 21, 2009, at the University of Minnesota Conference Center. This year’s topic is “Mitigation: Are we achieving no-net-loss?”
Some our confirmed speakers include Joy Zedler (UW-Madison), Sue Galatowisch (U of M), Joe Schaffer (MN Native Landscapes), Sarah Stai (EcoSmith Consulting), Carol Strojny and Karli Swenson (MN Board of Water and Soil Resources). Speakers will be addressing the broader issues of defining success in wetland creation and the long-term issues of dynamic landscapes. We’ll also take a look at some of the legal issues surrounding long-term projects. To balance out those broad issues, we expect to have a preview of the Board of Water and Soil Resources’ (BWSR) findings from their audit of existing wetland replacement sites. Last, but not least, we will have some experts in the field discuss new trends or ideas in mitigation area design and construction.
The conference will also host a trade show in the lobby of the Continuing Education and Conference Center.
